The Great Raft crew is always on the lookout for innovative ways to partner with our friends in the brewing industry. Early in 2021, as our state began to re-open for business, we decided it was time to collaborate with some of our friends down in South Louisiana to brew a beer that celebrates our favorite things – crispy lager and our beautiful home state. We reached out to our buddy Eric Jensen with Parleaux Beer Lab in New Orleans, and in early May he visited us in Shreveport to brew something special.
Brewed with Pilsen malt, “Twilight of My Youth” also received a generous addition of oats to complement the crisp finish with a soft mouthfeel. We used Nelson Sauvin hops throughout the brewing process — in both the whirlpool and a dry-hop addition — to bring out the stunning fruit and wine-like flavors of a floral and earthy bouquet. The Nelson Sauvin dry hop in throws notes of white grape and mango, with a subtle hint of bitter grapefruit rind.
We kept the brewing process super traditional, with a long lagering time to achieve the characteristic color and clarity of this beer style. This crispy lager was fermented in stainless and lagered on Cypress wood, giving the final product inviting notes of sponge cake and vanilla wafer.
