We’ve always been committed to supporting charitable organizations through the work we do here at Great Raft. Over the years we have made over $100,000 in donations to a variety of nonprofit and charitable organizations, and we decided it was time to do something for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in the craft beer community through the launch of a brand new beer.
We are proud to announce the launch of EACH & EVERY ALL-AMERICAN AMBER this Friday, September 25.
Each & Every All-American Amber is a charitable beer, with 100% of the profits being donated to the Michael Jackson Foundation (MJF)– a grant-making organization dedicated to providing scholarship awards that support technical education and career advancement for BIPOC within the brewing and distilling trades. The foundation was started and is led by Garrett Oliver — brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewing, author and icon in the brewing community — who recognized the need to amplify Black voices in brewing and distilling trades. It is named in honor of Michael James Jackson, who helped launch the craft beer movement in the United States and worldwide. Jackson’s concept for a taxonomy of beer styles is used today as the framework for understanding modern beers. The MJF awards present an opportunity to advance technical education and facilitate career opportunities and directly fund a more just, equitable and dynamic future for BIPOC in brewing.
About the Beer
Each & Every is an All-American Amber Ale, brewed with only American ingredients. Smooth and easy-drinking, Each & Every was created with hops from Oregon and malt from Colorado. Sitting at 5% ABV, the beer is available in 4-packs of 16oz cans at the Great Raft Tasting Room.
Why did we make this beer?
Great Raft Brewing has a long history of donating to nonprofits and charitable organizations, the majority of which are right here in Northwest Louisiana. With the heightened awareness around racial injustice and systemic inequalities in our country, we wanted to do something to show our support for the Black community. Beer and brewing belong to everyone, and traditionally each African village had its own beer. When we learned about the formation of The MJF, it presented the perfect opportunity to support BIPOC in the brewing industry. The MJF serves as a means to amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in the brewing and distilling industries. We are committed to making the craft beer community and industry available to each and every person, and to lifting up those who have historically been unrepresented. Each & Every is one way we are taking action to help bring more diversity to the craft brewing profession.
How does this non-profit support GRB’s mission?
Great Raft Brewing is a Shreveport, Louisiana based craft brewery dedicated to making creative, authentic beer and helping to build a great beer culture within communities it serves. By supporting the MJF in their mission to provide technical education and career advancement to BIPOC in the brewing industry, we are helping to create a better culture within this community filled with diverse voices.
Who is Michael Jackson?
No – it’s not that Michael Jackson. Michael James Jackson is known as the world’s greatest beer and whisky writer. His books have sold more than 3 million copies in 18 languages and helped launch the craft beer movement in the United States and worldwide. His conception of a taxonomy of beer styles serves as the framework for understanding the complexity of modern beer. While not a person of color himself, Michael can only be described as actively and profoundly anti-racist and the 20th century’s greatest champion of grain-based beverages.
How does the name Each & Every tie to this beer?
We believe that beer belongs to each and every person. While the craft brewing industry is predominantly run by white males, this beer helps bring awareness to the disparity and opportunity to better diversify this industry. Black people love beer. Black people make great beer. But when looking at the industry as a whole, Black people and other minorities are grossly under-represented.
The MJF serves as a means to create opportunities for growth and education for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in the brewing and distilling industries. Beer and brewing belong to everyone. Great Raft is committed to making the craft beer community and industry available to each and every person, and to lifting up those who have historically been ignored.
How can people buy it?
Each & Every can be purchased by placing an order at GRBtogo.com. It will be available for pickup beginning Friday, September 25 at 4 pm.
