Social distancing and state-mandated stay in place orders have uprooted our entire way of life at Great Raft Brewing. However, we know that the health and safety of our employees, customers and the entire country are dependent upon these changes. Besides making sure to schedule your curbside pick-up for a 4-pack of our At Arm’s Length IPL, the Official Beer of Social Distancing, here are a few tips from our crew members on how to survive quarantine:
What are you doing to keep busy during this time?
“We’ve been watching a lot of documentaries. Right now, we are watching Tiger King on Netflix and it is INSANE.” – Joel Wade, Tasting Room Manager
“We have been putting together puzzles and playing a lot of board games.” – Bob Thames, NWLA Brand Rep
“Watching Letterkenny, walking my cat, snuggling with my cats, cooking new recipes, reading…” – Emily Bhuller, beertender
“Puzzles, cooking, begrudgingly exercising, biking, organizing, re-reading some of my favorite books and getting some quality rest.” – Abbie Machowski, beertender
What food are you eating? What beer are you drinking?
“Trying out new recipes in the evenings – crab cakes and mashed cauliflower, slow-braised honey bourbon-glazed chicken thighs. As far as beer, last night I had a Soul Diversion from Braindead Brewing, a Belgian strong golden ale aged in bourbon barrels…great beer.” Kirkland Kilcrease, DFW Brand Rep
“Lots of curries that take hours of stove-top cook time – because I now have that time. I’m drinking 318 Golden Ale, lots of it.” – Kevin Brown, brewer
“When I’m not cooking, we’re eating Giuseppe’s Pastacaffe, Ki Mexico, Marilynn’s Place, or breakfast for dinner. We’ve got a case of Life Itself we’re working through and we’re saving the last bit of our Gnarly Barley goodies.” – Cameron Allgood, beertender
What creative ways have you found to hang out with your friends and family from a distance?
“We downloaded the Houseparty app. You can play games and Facetime with your friends.” – Bob Thames
“Zwift is a virtual reality game for indoor cycling trainers. It allows me to connect to my friends while we are all stuck inside due to the rain and virus. We chat frequently about our rides and can even ride together in the game.” – Garrett Johnson, Business Manager
“Social Distancing Brunch. You get brunch and eat it in your own car parked next to other people doing the same thing.” – Abbie Machowski
What music do you have in rotation at this time?
“A mix of Nina Simone, Hiss Golden Messenger, Vanilla Fudge & the Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban Score.” – Joel Wade
“I actually made a Spotify playlist…” – Garrett Johnson
“Always Black Sabbath. Timber Timbre is pretty amazing apocalypse music. Been doing a lot of gardening and dancing while listening to Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin.” – Mallori Sanders, Marketing Manager
What are some ways you are supporting local from afar?
“Curbside pick-ups from as many local spots as we can!” – Bailey Rowe
“I did a raffle to support local service industry workers that raised $4500!” – Bob Thames
“Trying to buy a new beer a day from somewhere that supports us and tip like normal times.” – Kirkland Kilcrease
“I am showing my support via Facebook, but am also ordering from places like Rhino Coffee.” – Emily Bhuller
“We eat out when we can. I make sure to over-tip as often as possible. Participating in raffles and GoFundMe’s for local service industry folks and musicians. Times are tough but now more than ever it’s vital to our community to support local.” – Abbie Machowski
