You might remember we hit the ground running in 2019 with a brand-new beer release in Jan named Hobbies Include. This beer fixed a problem. In our never-ending pursuit of beer education, we knew we needed to do more to educate our fans on hops. Nowadays, most hoppy styles feature multiple hops in a single beer, so picking out qualities in each can be a challenge. Enter the SMASH IPA. SMASH is an acronym for (Single Malt and Single Hop). Only one type of malt and one type of hop is used to showcase a single hop variety. We love this idea of something simple in nature, but complex in taste.
This week Hobbies Includes SMASH IPA returns for its second iteration. This release features Sabro. Here is some fun info on what the hop breeders say about this unique hop:
“Sabro is an aroma hop that is notable for its complexity of fruity and citrus flavors. It imparts distinct tangerine, coconut, tropical fruit, and stone fruit aromas, with hints of cedar, mint, and cream.”
Ok so that’s a lot. Let’s see what our staff thinks about the latest release of Hobbies Include.
“Hobbies has this pineapple and mango aroma going on that’s lovely with the lemon zest and coconut blending in with the flavor.” -Bailey Rowe
“Coconut. Straight coconut. There is no way we can convince me we didn’t put coconut in this beer. Also, pour me another.” – Andrew Nations
“Coconut pineapple Pina Colada with a lemon zinger chaser.” – Kevin Brown
“I get the lemon zest, but the coconut is super present. It almost gives off a little bit of mint as well. The mouthfeel is soft and thins out on the finish.” – Zak Strezo
Please join us Friday, June 7, to tap the second release of Hobbies Include. This will be a draught only release with limited amounts heading out to distribution next week and crowlers available in the tasting room for a limited time.
