Beer and BBQ are both delicious in their own right, but together they can lift each other up for an enhanced culinary experience. While beer and food pairings can often be subjective, there’s no denying these two go well together. We find that there are certain beers that pair particularly well with certain types of BBQ and have put together a few recommendations to help enhance your summer grilling and backyard bbqs, as well as set you up for success at the Spring Shindig on Saturday, 5/29 when we welcome Sunbird BBQ to the brewery.
IPA ALL DAY
Cooking something with huge flavor like a brisket, or maybe a whole pork shoulder? You’ll want a beer with big flavor to match. We recommend an IPA, like Rhinestone Life. Big, bold hop flavors from Mosaic, Simcoe, and Citra hold up well for the smoky, fatty richness of the meat. Other good choices – Hobbies Include: Citra for the unmatched citrusy aromas or Walker Melon Texas Ranger for something with just a hint of sweetness.
PILSNER FOR YOUR PORK BELLY
Smoky, spicy, and finger-licking good, everyone loves a good pork belly. You need something light and sharp to cut through those bold tastes. Might we recommend one of our favorite pilsners, Southern Drawl? Totally crushable and perfectly crispy, you won’t fill up on beer before you get to the good stuff.
SOMETHING LIGHTER, PERHAPS
Grilled fish. Veggie kabobs. Perfectly cooked chicken. Sometimes we just want something a little lighter, but still flavorful. The Life Itself Gose series and 318 Golden Ale are both ideal for anything on the lighter side or cooked with citrus. Let the delicious fruity flavors inspire your next marinade!
BLACK LAGER + BURGERS = TRUE LOVE
There’s nothing more classic at a BBQ than a delicious, grilled burger. Pair it up with another classic – Reasonably Corrupt Black Lager. Incredibly dark in color, but deceptively easy-drinking, Reasonably Corrupt has the crispness you need to cut through the fat and keep you coming back for more.
FIRE IT UP!
All this food and beer talk making you hungry? We’re firing up the grill here at Great Raft on May 29 with the SPRING SHINDIG!
