10 Years of Beers: Staff Favorites – Roger Taulli

October 11, 2023

As we race towards our 10 Year Anniversary, let’s take a look back at some of our favorite beers over the years and hear directly from the Great Raft Team.

Take a look at what our Gulf Region Sales Manager Roger Taulli has to say about his favorite Great Raft beers of the past decade.

Kanpai Style! Dry-hopped Japanese Rice Lager

I look forward to this release every year! Brewed with Uruchimai sushi rice and Dry-hopped with Sorachi Ace hops, this session lager is dry and crisp with a lemongrass notes. It’s as good as it gets!

Come What Mayhaw  Golden Sour

One of the first foeder beers out of Louisiana, our collaboration with Upland brewing was a show stopper! 12 months in our oak foeder and then aged on Mayhaw berries, this bone dry golden sour hits all the wild ale funky notes with the inherent sour of Mayhaw. Fantastic!

Show Pony Kellerbier

Made with craft malts and Tettnanger hops, this “cellared beer” is unfiltered and undeniably crisp. It is a true joy to drink this thoughtfully crafted lager.

Southern Drawl Dry Hopped Pilsner

Made with Louisiana rice and dry hopped with mosaic, this extremely drinkable pilsner is my year-round go to. Perfect with food of to session with friends, I drink this more than any beer we make!

You, Me, and Everyone We Know Volume #4

Our 100% solera pull sour is fantastic, but the one I remember most was aged on pluots for an unbelievably special brew. Very small batch of these that I was happy to get a hold of!

Stagger Homeward Imperial Milk stout

I’m proud of this one since I got to name it. An imperial milk stout that was smooth as glass and hid it’s 10% abv so well. Dark beers were one of my first loves and this one did not disappoint.

Old Mad Joy Barrel Aged Baltic Porter (Heaven Hill Barrel)

This Barrel aged Baltic porter put us on the map for a lot of beer nerds. Everyone has a favorite batch of this rotating barrel brew, but mine was the 2016 Heaven Hill Barrel version. Great notes of caramel and vanilla and not too boozy burn. Spectacular!

8th Anniversary Imperial West Coast IPA

My old self was transported back to the days of piney, viscous malt bombs that were IPA’s of days past! Big hints of pine, and citrus with a big malt backbone. All the “C”hops for that classic west coast flavor profile. A time machine of a brew!

Oceans Between Us Brett IPA

My love of Belgian brews started before my time in the industry and I’m so glad that our team had that same love. This 100% Brettanomyces beer works magic on the IPA with earthy funkiness. My favorite was the last batch that was double dry-hopped with Calypso hops and then mango was added.

Farmhouse Slang Farmhouse ale

Another staple from our Belgian program, Farmhouse Slang is a mixed fermentation saison that is dry and funky and always a treat. We rotate the hop profile on this one so there are some subtle differences between batches. One of the standouts for me was the Batch #001 Nelson Sauvin version!
